About InfraTracker
InfraTracker is a free, non-commercial, public-interest platform that maps and tracks the cost of capital projects around the world: highways, railways, dams, power plants, ports, water systems and the data centers of the AI build-out. Public infrastructure is financed with public money, yet its costs are scattered across funder databases, government records and press releases in a hundred incompatible formats. InfraTracker gathers them into one place, standardizes them into one open data schema, and publishes them freely for anyone to inspect.

How it works
Evidence arrives
Public records (funder databases, government project records, official filings) are ingested by automated agents; verified contributors can submit field reports with photos, voice notes and documents. Every arrival is preserved unchanged as an evidence envelope.
Agents standardize
Software agents extract each data point from the evidence and map it onto the standardized schema, with cost normalized across currencies, dates, phases and funding structures, recording what was extracted, from which document, and when.
Facts are published
Every published value traces to its source document; the platform cannot display a number whose origin it cannot show. Newer facts supersede older ones and the full history stays auditable.
Principles
- No fact without a source. Enforced by the database schema, not editorial policy.
- Unknown is shown as unknown. Nothing is silently estimated; completeness is displayed, not implied.
- Free to view, for everyone, forever. No account is required to see anything on the platform.
- Open standard. The project data schema is published for reuse by researchers, journalists and institutions.
Origins & recognition
InfraTracker began as an infrastructure-accountability platform for Africa and won the governance & accountability track of the ADC 2026 Policy Hackathon. It is developed at the Harvard Innovation Labs and operated by SpeciPlan, Inc., where it runs as a non-commercial public-interest project alongside SpeciPlan's professional design software. The citizen field-reporting app that powered the original platform remains part of InfraTracker today.
